SNZB-03P is Sonoff's Zigbee motion sensor, which comes with a longer battery life of up to 3 years and a redesigned design compared to its predecessor. The sensor also comes bundled with a magnetic wall bracket, which is a new addition to its predecessor, as it had to be purchased as a separate product before. SNZB-03P is a tiny smart home motion sensor using the Zigbee 3.0 protocol, which sends signals via a Zigbee gateway to control other devices. Its tiny size allows for discreet placement either on the wall or ceiling.
For example, it communicates via a Sonoff Zigbee Bridge Pro, iHost or NS Panel Pro to the eWeLink cloud and can be used to control other Sonoff or SmartWise WiFi and eWeLink devices.
Another new feature is that when paired with a Sonoff gateway, you can also set the motion sensor's test period. So, between 5-60 seconds, you can set how long it should delay returning to the resting state.
This allows us to set a very fast response or a longer delay according to our automation goals.
What is Zigbee?
Most Sonoff products use Wi-Fi and RF as communication modes, which allow for more affordable products than other smart home technologies, but are not specifically IoT standards.
In contrast, Zigbee is specifically designed as an ideal communication solution for low-power devices where there is not a large amount of data transfer, but where the lowest possible time latency is important. Zigbee is a good choice for battery-powered sensors or remote controls, for example, where Zigbee offers multiple uptimes compared to WiFi. Zigbee sensors cannot be used on their own, they need a Zigbee gateway to connect them to your home/office network. One example is the Sonoff Zigbee Bridge Pro.
Due to the nature of Zigbee technology, pairing with individual Zigbee devices is a snap, much faster than pairing with WiFi.
