The Shelly 1 GEN4 is the newest, fourth-generation version of Shelly’s 1-gang smart relay, following in the footsteps of the GEN3 model. Just like its predecessor, it supports switching up to 16A and also enables dry contact switching, since the controlled circuit remains electrically isolated from the power supply required to operate the relay. This model does not include energy monitoring functionality.
As with all Shelly devices, the Shelly 1 GEN4 connects directly to your Wi-Fi router, without the need for any hub, local controller, or bridge. It is also natively compatible with Matter. Additionally, all GEN4 devices include a new operating mode that must be selected before pairing: Zigbee mode, which allows the device to connect to Zigbee gateways or coordinators. Whichever mode you choose, it’s perfect for automating lights or other electrical appliances and fits seamlessly into larger smart home ecosystems—ideal for property renovations or full smart home integrations.
This is one of the most compact Wi-Fi/Zigbee devices available for smart control of electrical circuits. Its small size makes it easy to install behind standard wall switches or inside junction boxes—even as a retrofit.
When installed behind existing wall switches, the Shelly 1 GEN4 enables remote control of lighting or other devices, while the physical switches remain fully functional. This makes it a great option for adding smart features to existing systems. It works perfectly with single-button wall switches and, thanks to its 16A current limit, is also suitable for controlling power outlets.
The relay features a switch input, so you can continue using your wall switches while also controlling the circuit via Wi-Fi. You can set up automatic on/off schedules, and even disable the physical switch entirely if needed—useful in child-safe scenarios.
The Shelly 1 GEN4 supports both toggle and momentary (push-button) switches, and it’s suitable for two-way or cross-switching circuits. The built-in auto-off function allows it to work in impulse switching mode as well.
Like its predecessor, the Shelly 1 GEN4 supports dry contact switching. It can handle loads up to 16A (240V AC) or 10A (30V DC), making it suitable for potential-free switching in applications like garage doors, gate openers, or irrigation systems. It can also switch 12V or 24V DC/AC circuits.
Important: The Shelly 1 GEN4 requires a neutral and live wire for operation. The switched live and the incoming live must have the same phase angle. This device is not suitable for multi-phase wiring.
