The Shelly 1 GEN3 is the new enhanced version of Shelly's single circuit smart relay module, the Shelly PLUS 1 (Gen2). Like the previous Shelly Plus 1 (Gen2) version, the Shelly 1 GEN3's output is independent of the power supply of the relay, so it also supports voltage-free dry contact switching. No consumption measurement function is included.
(If you need a metered 1 circuit relay, choose the Shelly 1PM GEN3 smart relay.)
Like all other Shelly products, it connects directly to your Wi-Fi router, so no local hub or gateway (bridge) is required to control it. It can be installed as a standalone device to automate lights or other electrical device.
It is one of the smallest Wi-Fi devices for smart control of wall switches or sockets. Its compact size makes it possible to be installed behind a standard light switch, socket in a wall box or electrical junction box, as a retrofit solution.
Installed behind existing switches or sockets in a wall socket, the Shelly 1 GEN3 allows you to remotely control your lighting or other loads and track their on/off status while keeping your existing switches or sockets, making it ideal for retrofit smart control. The Shelly 1 GEN3 is widely used behind single-button light switches and sockets to control them, and its 16A maximum rating makes it suitable for controlling sockets.
The Shelly 1 GEN3 relay, like other small Shelly smart relays, includes a switch input, meaning that when installed behind light switches you can still use the wall switch to switch the lamp (or other consumer), and remotely switch the controlled lamp or other device via WiFi, and a range of timers are available. There is also the option to disable the switch in the Shelly app - useful for small children in some rooms - with these settings the relay can only be controlled from the app.
The relay is compatible not only with toggle switches, but also with rocker and push-button switches. It can also be used together with 2-way and 3-way switches.
With its auto-off function, it can also be set to momentary switching mode.
The Shelly 1 GEN3 relay's output is independent of the power supply (110V-240V AC / 12V DC / 24V-48V DC), so it supports both wet contact (up to 16A AC) and voltage-free (dry contact) switching. It is therefore also popular for applications where dry contact switching is required, such as garage doors, gate opener motors, etc. It is also capable of switching 12V or 24V used in casting systems.
Important: the live wire of the power supply and the live wire in the switch input must belong from the same phase, as Shelly 1 GEN3 is not suitable for multi-phase operation!
The Shelly 1 GEN3 has the same dimensions as its predecessor, so standard DIN adapters can be used with GEN3 relays. It also includes wiring diagrams for easy and clear wiring.
Pairing requires the new Shelly Cloud app, not compatible with the old Shelly Cloud app. Pairing is done with the same speed as Shelly Plus 1 thanks to the built-in Bluetooth chip.
The ESP32 processor in Shelly Plus 1 has been replaced by the ESP-Shelly-C38F processor in GEN3 products, which features an even faster and more powerful CPU and double the 8MB of memory, offering enhanced features and faster operation than the PLUS product line.
The Shelly Plus 1 is equipped with overheat protection, ensuring even safer operation in small spaces with wall sockets.

In Cloud mode, Shelly devices can also control each other using the Shelly Cloud Scenes (for example, a Shelly relay installed behind a light switch can turn on/off another Shelly relay behind an outlet) and turn it on/off.
It is also supported to control each other directly with HTTP commands (DDD, Direct Device-to-Device) even without using Shelly Cloud, in LAN mode, when using fixed IP addresses. So Shelly devices can also turn each other off/on on the local network or through internet disconnection, using the Actions (HTTP calls) that can be configured in the Shelly App.
Even with its factory firmware, Shelly is one of the easiest smart devices on the market to integrate. It supports MQTT and control via REST API. Compatible with Google Home, Amazon Echo and Yandey Alice voice control. Unlike Shelly 1, Shelly Plus 1 and GEN3 support both Cloud and MQTT control simultaneously.
Many Shelly devices are also already integrated with the SmartThings platform via Shelly Cloud.
In addition, the factory firmware also supports a range of other open source and other systems:
Power supply: 110-240V AC (±10%), and 24V-48V DC, 12V DC stabilized
Maximum power: 3500W / 16A (AC), 10A (DC)
Like other smart relays, Shelly 1 Gen3 requires both live and neutral wires.
