The Shelly 2PM Gen3 is the new, improved, third generation version of the second generation Shelly Plus 2PM dual gang smart relay module. Like its predecessor, it provides metering on both circuits and can be used to control two independent circuits. In motor/shutter control mode, it also supports switching of two directions (e.g. open/close) of a motor, such as a roller shutter or shader. Thanks to its compact size, it can be easily installed behind switches or can be DIN-rail mounted in an electrical cabinet using an adapter.
Like all other Shelly products, it connects directly to the Wi-Fi router, no local hub or bridge is needed for a cloud-based smart control. It can be installed as a standalone device to automate or meter two circuits (e.g. sockets or 2 lighting circuits), or as a complete system with new or retrofit installation.
It is one of the smallest Wi-Fi enabled devices for smart control of switches and smart metering. Its tiny size allows you to install it behind a standard light switch, socket in the switch socket or in a junction box, even in a reftrofit way, and remotely control your lighting or other loads connected to the socket and monitor their off/on status. A common use is to install it behind a wall-mounted shutter switch or in a shutter junction box, as its shutter control mode is one of the most professional on the market.
Installed in the wall socket behind existing switches, the Shelly 2PM GEN3 allows us to remotely control our 2 lights while keeping the existing 2-gang switch, tracking their on/off status and power consumption, making the product ideal as a retrofit smart solution. The Shelly 2PM GEN3 is widely used behind two-button light switches and sockets, and its 16A maximum rating makes it suitable for controlling sockets.
The Shelly 2PM GEN3 relay, like other small Shelly smart relays, includes a switch input for each of its two circuits, meaning that when installed behind light switches, you can still use the wall switch to switch the lamp (or other load), and remotely switch the controlled lamp or other device via Wi-Fi, and a range of timers are available. There's also the option to disable the switch in the Shelly app - useful for small children in some rooms - with these settings, you can only control the relay from the app.
The relay is compatible not only with rocker switches, but also with push button switches. It can also be used to connect 2-way and 3-way switches, too.
With its auto-off function, it can also be set to momentary switching mode.
The Shelly 2PM GEN3 relay switches on the input (110V-240V AC / 24V-30V DC) at its output (max. 16A), so this type is not suitable for dry contact switching!
Important: the live wire used as a power supply of the Shelly 2PM Gen3 and the live wire on the switch input must be from the same phase, the Shelly 2PM Gen3 is not suitable for multi-phase operation!
The Shelly 2PM GEN3 has the same dimensions as its predecessor, so the usual DIN adapters can be used with GEN3 relays. It also includes wiring diagrams for easy and clear wiring.
Pairing requires the new Shelly Cloud app, it is not compatible with the old Shelly Cloud app. Pairing is done with the same speed as the Shelly Plus 2PM thanks to the built-in Bluetooth chip.
Instead of the ESP32 processor found in the Shelly Plus 2PM, GEN3 products now feature Shelly's proprietary IoT chip, an ESP-Shelly-C38F processor, which includes an even faster and more powerful CPU and twice as much memory (8 MB), offering enhanced features and faster operation than the PLUS product line.
The Shelly 2PM GEN3 is equipped with overheat protection, overvoltage protection and overload protection, ensuring even safer operation in small spaces with wall sockets.
Product:
Consumption data is saved to the Shelly Cloud account when the smart device is in cloud mode, and you can view and download consumption history in the app.
In Cloud mode, Shelly devices can also control each other and switch each other on/off using the Shelly Cloud Scene (Smart Control) feature. (For example, a Shelly relay mounted behind a light switch can turn on/off another Shelly relay behind an outlet that is independent of it from the wiring point on the cloud, and turn it on/off as well, i.e. the devices can simply control each other wirelessly over WIFi and the factory cloud according to rules we specify.)
It is also possible to control each other directly with HTTP commands (DDD, Direct Device-to-Device) (even without using Shelly Cloud, even in LAN mode), when using fixed IP addresses, i.e. Shelly devices can also turn each other off/on on the local network in case of external internet disconnection (or disabling on the firewall), using so-called Actions that can be configured in the Shelly App.
For the Shelly 2PM GEN3 smart controller, the manufacturer's own NEW smartphone app and its own Cloud service are also available for free.
Even with its factory firmware, Shelly is one of the easiest smart devices on the market to integrate. It supports MQTT and control via REST API. Compatible with Google Home, Amazon Echo and Yandey Alice voice control. The Shelly 2PM GEN3 supports Cloud and MQTT control simultaneously.
Several Shelly devices have already been integrated with the SmartThings platform via Shelly Cloud.
In addition, the factory firmware supports a range of other open source and other systems:
Supply voltage: 110-230V AC ±10%, and 24V-30V DC
Maximum power: 3500W / 16A (for AC), 10A (for DC).
Similarly to other smart relays, this type requires not only a live but also neutral wires.
