What makes it special is that Nous ships the smart plug with Tasmota firmware, so it is primarily recommended for users and integrators of open source smart home systems.
Note: this product is not compatible with eWeLink or other apps and clouds, it's a product intended for integration with open source smart home solutions. Also kindly note, that Tasmota firmware is not a commercial product and only community support is available.
What is Tasmota firmware?
TASMOTA is an open source firmware that is increasingly being used as the base software for smart home devices, even pre-installed at the factory. It enables cloud-independent local control and thus supports vendor-independent, local, secure data storage. Because Tasmota is open source, it is continuously developed and verified by the community, which increases security and reliability.
It supports different communication protocols such as MQTT, HTTP and WebSocket, which provides a wide range of compatibility with different devices. TASMOTA devices can be easily integrated with various smart home hubs such as Home Assistant, OpenHAB, Domoticz, and Node-RED.
The Tasmota firmware offers a local web administration interface on the devices, where various settings can be made, but it does not offer a "factory" app, but several third-party apps are developed to help control and manage the devices. Home Assistant, OpenHAB and other smart home platforms also have mobile apps to integrate and control TASMOTA devices.
It allows you to turn a standard wall socket into a smart one in just a few simple steps, making it the perfect solution for controlling plugged-in appliances and lights.
It can be used to conveniently turn on appliances remotely before you get home or to conveniently time on/off. You can also monitor the power consumption of the connected devices to save energy and money, as the smart plug also includes a power meter.
The W-iFi smart plug can switch up to 16A of current, so you can control higher power consumers (up to 3680W) such as electric boilers, irons or even electric heating.
Thanks to the factory pre-installed Tasmota firmware, it is compatible with most MQTT-enabled home automation systems, making it easy to integrate into your existing smart home.
(Compatible smart home systems: Alexa, AWS IoT, Domoticz, Home Assistant, Homebridge, HomeSeer, IP Symcon, KNX, NodeRed, nymea, OctoPrint, openHAB, Otto, IOBroker, Mozilla WebThings Adapter, SmartThings, Tasmohab, Homematic ip ...)
It does NOT provide a factory cloud solution, specifically recommended for integration with the systems listed.
